A Few Important Things About All-Over Printing

We want to be as transparent as possible so you know exactly what to expect.
Here are a few additional things to consider before ordering all-over screen prints.

All-Over Prints Are
Limited to a Single Ink Color

The all-over screen printing process itself is limited to one ink color.

If your design needs more colors, we can often go back and add additional colors in our standard print areas, ike a front print. Reach out and we'll help figure out what's possible for your design.

100% Cotton, Short Sleeve
T-Shirts Work Best

If you're printing dark ink on a light colored shirt, any fabric works.

But if you want light ink on a dark shirt, like white on black, the garment must be 100% cotton. That's because the process uses discharge printing to remove the dye from the fabric first, which only works on natural fibers.

Dot Sizes Are Larger Than
Standard Screen Printing

All-over prints use water-based inks that dry quickly, so we print them a little different than standard screen printing.

This results in a more textured look with slightly larger dot patterns and less fine detail than plastisol inks would allow. Consider oversized printing instead if you do not like this look.

Imperfections Are Part of the Process, Not a Defect

Variations in ink coverage, texture, and consistency are a normal part of all-over printing and are not considered defects.

Because these imperfections are expected and communicated upfront, orders are not eligible for reprints or replacements based on these characteristics.

All-Over Screenprinting Design Requirements & Limitations

All over printing is more involved than standard screen printing. Here are a few things to keep in mind so your order comes out exactly as you expect.
Please review these before ordering and let our team know if you have any questions.

Printing Imperfections
Happen Around Seams

Printing over seams is nearly unavoidable with all-over printing. The raised texture creates a rougher, non-flat printing surface. To minimize this, our team adds a distress pattern to your design so any imperfections blend right in.

All-Over Back Prints
Will Show the Front Collar

Think of it like doing a penny rubbing — the raised front collar transfers through to the back print. To keep it from looking like a flaw, we recommend adding a distress pattern or minimizing ink coverage in that area.

The Design Looks
On Every Shirt Size

The same print size goes on every shirt, causing some of the design to get cut off. Because of this, our team will adjust your design to ensure that anything important, especially text, fits the smallest shirt sizes.

The All-Over Screen Printing Process

Here's a look at what happens between placing your order and getting your shirts at the door.

  • It all starts with your artwork. Our designers are specifically trained on all-over print design — they know how to minimize seam imperfections, work within the limitations of the process, and create something that actually looks great on a shirt. Once your design is ready, you'll receive an online proof to review. Nothing goes to print without your approval.
  • After you approve your proof, our production team preps the artwork and burns it onto a large all-over screen — the same process as standard screen printing, where the design is exposed onto the screen mesh like a stencil.
  • Before each print run, your shirts are carefully laid flat on large wooden boards. Getting the shirt as flat and wrinkle-free as possible is critical — any fold or bump in the fabric will show up in the print.
  • The board is loaded into our automated screen printing press, which moves the ink across the screen and deposits it evenly onto the shirt. Once printed, the board goes straight into our commercial dryer to cure the ink — curing is what makes the print permanent and wash-resistant.
  • If your design includes a back print, the whole process repeats for that side.
  • Once printing is complete, every shirt goes through our quality review, gets counted and packaged, and ships directly to your door with free standard shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions about All Over Printing

All over printing is a screen printing method that covers the full surface of a shirt — front, back, and sides — rather than a standard chest or back print area. It creates a bold, retail-style look that works great for teams, events, schools, and any group that wants something memorable. We use water-based inks on 100% cotton shirts to keep the print soft and long-lasting.

The minimum order for all over printing is 12 shirts per design. This is lower than many all over printers, making it a great fit for smaller teams, clubs, and events that still want a big, bold look.

All over printing requires 100% cotton garments. The water-based inks we use bond best with cotton fibers, which keeps colors vibrant and the print feeling soft. We offer all over printing on men's, women's, and kids' tees. Check our garment catalog or ask our team to confirm which styles are approved for the process.

Both methods can cover a shirt edge to edge, but they work differently and are suited for different products. All over screen printing uses water-based inks on 100% cotton shirts — it's the right choice for standard tees with a soft, lasting print. Sublimation printing uses heat and pressure to dye synthetic fibers, making it ideal for white polyester athletic wear like cycling jerseys and performance gear. If you want a classic cotton t-shirt with a bold all over look, screen printing is the way to go.

Because the print covers the full garment, the design will shift and scale slightly between sizes — a small shirt and an XL will show the design a little differently. Our team sets up your artwork to look great across the full size run, and your proof will show you exactly what to expect before anything goes to print.

All over printing typically takes about two weeks from the time you approve your proof. The process is more involved than standard screen printing, so it does require a little extra production time. If you're working with a tight deadline, reach out to our team — we'll do our best to help you find a solution.

Nope! If you don't have a finished design, our in-house art team can create a custom all over print for you. We also have design templates you can customize online. Just tell us your idea, colors, and any text you want included, and we'll handle the rest.

Yes. Water-based screen printing on cotton is durable and designed to last through regular washing. For best results, turn shirts inside out and wash in cold water. The print should hold up well for the life of the garment when cared for properly.
