- Breathability - If you are needing a single item or a smaller order of full zips, we offer no minimum printing with direct to garment digital prints. These zip hoodies must have atleast 80% cotton so your options are more limited, but the selections are still great.
- Less Stinky than Polyester - The smelly substances in our world around us including food smells and sweat are more easily released by cotton. Thus, you will smell less when wearing cotton t-shirts. Who doesnt want that?! This will have a long term benefit as well, especially in the food industry.
- Lower Maintenece Fabric - This is a debatable point depending on what you define as an easy to wash product. We love it because its machine washable! It downside is it does shrink. Start with a pre-shrunk cotton t-shirt if you want to minimize the shrinkage that will occur.
- Static-Cling Resistant - When was the last time you had static cling issues with your 100% cotton t-shirt? Never! Cotton does not conduct static electricity like polyester so its a great choice during those dry winter months.
- Cotton is an Organic Material -While not all cotton is organic in the sense of its grown organically, cotton is in no way man made and is considered a renewable resource. You can feel good about your purchase!
- Cotton is the Most Economical Fabric - Cotton t-shirts generally are cheaper than their polyester rivals. Although the world economicals can impact the cotton printing, its been cheaper than synthetics for the last 20 years.
Which Shirt Printing Method is Right For You?
Due to it being a natural fiber, 100% cotton tees offer the best result with t-shirt printing. With options galore, it might be confusing to know what decoration method is right for your project. Here is a guide to help you choose:
Direct to Garment Digital
Choose digital if you are ordering less than 6 pieces, your design is super high in detail (like a photograph) or your design has a ton of colors.
Screen Printing
Screen printing is typically going to be the preferred, most cost effective method for zips. Pricing is based on quantity and number of design colors.
Embroidery
While we do offer embroidery on cotton tees, a heavyweight one is highly recommend to give the embroidery enough support to sew cleanly and look great.
Important Terms with 100% Cotton Garments
While there are tons of different types of garments made with cotton (broadcloth, chenille, corduroy to name a few), we will still with the ones that matter to custom cotton t-shirts.
- Ringspun Cotton: T-shirts made with ringspun cotton threads are typically softer than standard cotton. The yarn is spun an additional time that is intended to create a softer, stronger fiber. If the description does not list ringspun, you'll get carded cotton which is the basic run of the mill harder cotton.
- Combed Cotton: A yarn that has gown through the process of removing sort fibers to create extra fineness and uniformity. Combed & ringspun processes are often combined together to create something even softer than using one or the other. This is one of the softest feels you will get for your custom shirt.
- Egyptian Cotton: Direct from Egypt’s Nile River Valley, this is considered to be one of the finest cottons in the world. Most commonly used in linens and towels.
- Jersey Knit Cotton: This is a special weaving process that creates a more flat, smooth faced texture. Typically will be thinner than standard cotton products. Most t-shirts are a jersey cotton texture. Pique for example offers a waffle knit instead of flat.
- Pima Cotton: Typically stronger than standard cotton, this cotton is specially named when it’s from a longer growing season in select areas in the world. Pima tends to be softer than standard cotton as well.
- Chino Cotton: A mid-weight twill fabric typically used for work clothing or uniforms and has a tigheter weave which increases durability. Very common material used in hats, especially dad caps.
- Organic Cotton: Some products offer either 100% organic cotton or partially organic cotton compounds. Organic cottons are grown using more eco-friendly that does not use chemicals like pesticides and so it is more eco friendly than non organic.
- US Grown Cotton: US Grown cotton is just that, grown in the United States. A product with US Grown cotton does not mean a USA made t-shirt. The cotton may be exported and sent to a different company where the t-shirt manufacturing process will occur.

Any of the cotton shirts we offer are great choices for your t-shirt printing order. We like the Bella+Canvas 3001 for a light and soft option and the Gildan Hammer for a Heavyweight.
The lighter the thread weight, the lighter the tee. A 3-4oz weight will be super light, but quite thin. The standard weight is around 5oz where at 6oz it is considered heavyweight.
No! While it has become a popular marketing term to advertise US Grown Cotton, it does not mean your shirt was actually made in the USA.
Actually, all cotton will shrink! Most of our options are pre-shrunk so they will shrink just 1-2% from the original size. We generally do not suggest sizing up to account for shrinkage.
